Eventblog: Outdoor Cinema

cineairSummer is just around the corner, so the line up for the outdoor cinemas in the area are now “mostly” online.    For our geographic area, we can count on CineAir, which has open air cinemas in Rolle (2-21 July) or Nyon (30 July – 25 August).   The tickets usually sell quite quickly (at least for the latest blockbuster movies), so think a bit in advance, last minute ticket sales don’t usually work so well.

The OpenAir cinema is a great place to head for a night out (Ladies, Men or couples) and teens can also take advantage of some of the movies being shown.    The venues aren’t so great for toddlers and preschoolers though, as there really is no place for them to crash and sleep whilst the parents catch the movie.  A baby in a carrier might do alright though.

In Geneva, a family-friendly outdoor cinema is CineTransat, given its name as you can rent transats.   Held from 11 July to 18 August on the lakefront near the Perle du Lac restaurant, you can watch a selection of older movies (no new releases).  Rent a transat (get there early!) or bring your own blankets and chairs and then spend the early evening chatting and socialising, before settling into “movie mode” at sundown.   Head out to this cinema with your friends or with your family.   If you bring young kids, consider it like movie night on the couch, where the idea is for the kids to fall asleep (so bring a sleeping bag/pillow!) while the parents enjoy the movie.   The first movie of the season is a classic, The GOONIES!  There is also the Orange Cinema, opening on 16 July 2013.

There are usually Open Air Cinema options in most of the larger towns and cities every summer.   Some are official Open Air cinemas others are organised by the town or municipality so are only listed locally.  Lausanne often does one at the Parc de Mon Repos or at Bellerive.  Vevey too has an Open Air cinema.   Morges tried to get one organised last year, but it didn’t happen, but the project may be launched again in the future, so if you live in the Morges area, watch for information.  There is also one this year in Gland.
