Kids Activities: New Music Programme in La Cote

Most of us here have heard of Kindermusik and Gymboree (Grand Saconnex), and even others know about Baby Gym (Vich) and Mubabil (Geneva), but did you know that the American music programme Music Together, an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program is also now in Switzerland?  And even better, did you know that there is a programme offerred locally, at Munchkins in Founex?

Music Together was first offered to the public in 1987 in the US, pioneering the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement.   The classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical, all children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate with confidence in the music of our culture, provided that their early environment supports such learning.

Right now most of the families that have joined the program in Geneva are expat families from all over the world.  The classes are primarily in English, but also has Spanish songs, and many songs without words.  Native French speakers are regularly in attendance too enabling the building of a community among both expat and Swiss families.

Sound good?  Here’s the best part, once a year Music Together Geneva organizes a social get-together called “Parents Night” where all adults from the different classes can meet.

There are currently a total of eleven classes in four locations in the Geneva area: Eaux-Vives, Petit-Lancy, Paquis and Bernex with Munchkins in Founex the fifth location.  The Munchkins location hosts a Babies class, on Tuesday mornings.
