Family-Friendly Exercise for Parents – Fall Edition

When one becomes a parent, parenting is a full-time job.  There’s no longer ample time to keep up with exercise programmes, especially in the summer when we are running around on family outings or shuttling our kids to summer camp.   This is why family-friendly activities and exercise options are so important and why every September, families are on the hunt again for just the “right” fit.

Luckily, there are quite a lot of programmes in the area and many run by expatriates and mompreneurs, and many in ENGLISH!   Here’s a short recap of those that are the most “family-oriented”:

Gather Yoga Collective, run by Yogis and mothers Alesha & Natalie, runs prenatal & postnatal yoga in Vich (Gland) and in Geneva, and for a special treat, workshops at the Jiva Hill Resort in Crozet, France.   Alesha and Natalie are both on maternity leave right now, but Yogi & Mother Fanny, who is bilingual in English and French, continues to offer yoga classes in Geneva.

For those of you in the Lausanne area, another Yogi and mother, Alexandra MacDonald also offers pre- and post-natal Yoga & Hatha yoga classes, which are held at l’ancienne ferme de l’hermitage.  Contact Alexandra for details.

SheZONE, run by MiV sponsor and mompreneur Charlaine, runs tailored exercise programmes for women including MommyZone, a specific programme for mother AND baby!  Year-round try stroller circuit and in the winter months snow-shoeing and sled/sledge circuit!    And don’t forget to try out their sunrise hikes and guided pasture hikes in the Jura.

And for those in the Geneva area or those who work in Geneva and want to exercise before coming home, there is another mompreneur, Michelle A., who runs PureGravity.  She has many activities on offer.  Her baby-friendly class Babes in the Wood is held at Parc de la Grange in Geneva.

Cross-Fit GVA is another organization that offers fitness classes, most recently a Saturday morning cross-fit workout at Coppet Plage on Saturday mornings.

For those of you who speak French, Association Co-NaÎtre and Thomas Payot run a prenatal Nordic Walking class every week in the Nyon area.   The classes are accompanied by a pregnancy and childbirth professional so that you can walk and ask questions at the same time.  The classes will recommence in the fall, pending sufficient inscriptions. For more information, visit the website.

Finally, for those of you who speak French and like to baby-wear, AvecBebe has CardioMums, an aerobics/pilates hybrid for mothers and their babies who are in a sling, scarf or carrier.   AvecBebe also does Nordic Walking (in cooperation with Mere-et-Terre), Gym Ballon pre- & post-natal, and Danse avec Bebe.  And a regular hit, Semaine Fit, one week of fitness classes at the Stade de Colovray.   The September classes are full, but there are still spaces in October!

Red Tent in Lausanne

Association Co-Naitre has recently announced that they will be holding their first Red Tent, or Tente Rouge, in Lausanne.

To be held at the Centre de Sante on the Rue Beau Sejour, Red Tents are intimate gatherings of women to discuss and share life-experiences from woman-to-woman.   They are open to girls, teens, women, mothers, grandmothers.

If you speak French and would like to participate in one of these events, contact Association Co-Naitre to sign up.
