Family Picnic in Rolle

Parents Club Member Aliki and I have been hard at work brainstorming ideas for our next event.   We have decided to try a family picnic at the Plage de Rolle.  Sand, grass, play structures, walks and water, it’s the perfect place for a picnic.

We’ll meet up in the afternoon of Sunday, 18 May 2014 (weather permitting) from 13:00.   Bring along your picnic blankets and baskets and a bit of food to share.  Hopefully we’ll get a warm afternoon.  In case of rain or inclement weather we’ll push back the picnic to sometime in June.

All families in the area who want to get out for a family afternoon to meet new arrivals or catch up with old friends, are invited to attend.   Members, Clients and clients of our sponsors and partners as well as members of other international clubs (e.g. IWCN, GEMS, AIWC) can attend free of charge.   All other participants are asked to contribute 5chf towards organisational costs.

If you are interested in attending please sign up on facebook or meetup.   Information on where to find us will be sent to those who RSVP.

Looking forward to seeing some old and new faces.

TGIF – Week 3, 2014

TGIFIt’s FRIDAY!  And the blog is back!  And Thank Goodness it’s Friday!!!  The rain the last few days makes you just want to crawl under a blanket, doesn’t it? The weather this month sure has been so unseasonal.  Rain and chilly or sunny and warm.  Sunny and chilly is more reasonable!  The former are more like fall or spring than full January winter.

In any event, school’s been back for a week or two and you’ve probably also been back at work.  Are you settled back into rhythms and routines?   I’m not quite, so the blog has taken quite a long break this season.  But we’re back today and will be resuming regular posting once again.

For today’s TGIF, let’s recap 2013.  I formalised my consultations and workshops and closed Moms-in-Vaud.  The moderation of such a large group was financially unsustainable.  I saw there was still a need for online support specific to the La Cote region, so I opened a paying English-Speaking or International Parents Club, La Cote in its place.  The parents club has online fora, but also activities and a lending library.  And many other perks.  If you decided not to join last year and are now starting to miss your online support, now is the time to join, the balance of the 2014 year is only 25chf.

What else to recap… the last Parents Club Ladies Night Out of 2013 was on 3 December 2014 at Cafe des Arts in Nyon.   We shared quite a few nice bottles of wine and caught up with old and new members.  There was also a Kiddies Christmas Party, on Friday, 13 December 2013.  Quite a few mothers came out.  It was open to members and non, members getting a preferential rate.  I hope to have similar events throughout 2014, starting sometime in February.  Myself or the social committee will be organising.  Anyone who wants to organise events in 2014 for the Parents Club will be offered a free renewal in 2014/15 or if not yet a member, a discount for the balance of 2014.

Professionally, the first Bumps, Birth, Babies & Breastfeeding Workshop was held.  It took place Thursday at noon, 12 December 2013.  Several mothers came out and learned a lot about maternity and paediatric services in Switzerland – all over a nice meal, provided by our partner Patachou. The next workshop is coming up on 26 January 2014 and is targeted to parents-to-be who want to practice and learn about comfort measures for pregnancy, labour and birth.  Brunch is included in the workshop fee.  Sign up by 20 January 2014.

So now for the TGIF of this post! What’s on for parents in the La Cote region this weekend?   Here’s a short line-up:

  • Disney sur Glace is on at the Arene de Geneve, between the Airport & Palexpo, on Saturday night.  Tickets still available.
  • La Reine des Neiges, Belle et Sebastien & Le Manoir Magique are three kids films in French at local cinemas
  • Pfffffff ! a small circus for ages 5 & up is on in Morges at the Theatre de Beausobre
